Korea Resource Circulation Industry Promotion Association (RIPA) Holds International Resource Circulation Cooperation Conference in Mongolia

On April 30, 2025 the Korea Recycling Industry Promotion Association held a Korea-Mongolia international conference on the topic of ‘Recycling Technology and Certification System’ at the conference room of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

This event was organized with the aim of strengthening cooperation in the field of recycling technology between the two countries and introducing Korea's GR (Good Recycled) product certification system and related technology standards.

The conference was attended by various related organizations, including the Mongolian Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the Ministry of Environment Research Center, the Department of Environmental Engineering of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), the Ulaanbaatar Metropolitan City, and the Mongolian National Recycling Association (MNRA), and began with an opening speech by the Vice-dean for Research and Innovation Affairs at School of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology.

Mongolia is facing the problem of increasing waste due to urbanization and industrialization, and the need to introduce resource recycling policies and improve the system to respond to this is being highlighted. According to professors of the Department of Environmental Engineering, the Mongolian side expressed interest in benchmarking Korea’s GR certification system to expand the circular economy and strengthen cooperation between environmental industries.

At this event, Ulaanbaatar City Councilor GANVAT Erdene mentioned the need for technological exchanges with Korea, and Director OTGONTSETSEG Luvsantseren of the Research Institute under the Mongolian Ministry of Environment requested that Korea actively share its circular economy operation cases and know-how.

Min Kyung-bo, Chairman of the Korea Recycling Industry Promotion Association, gave a presentation on the GR certification system under the theme of ‘Circular Economy and Excellent Recycled Product Certification System, followed by presentations by Batjargal, Chairman of the Mongolian National Recycling Association, and professors from SCEA, the Mongolian University of Science and Technology.

The association visited the Mongolian National Recycling Association on April 29th prior to this event and discussed ODA projects. An association official said, “We hope that this conference will serve as an opportunity to increase expectations for Korea in Mongolia,” and “We expect to be able to share future insights for the circular economy with the Mongolian government, academia, and policymakers.”

In addition, the association plans to invite about 30 professors and master's and doctoral students from the Department of Environmental Engineering, SCEA at the Mongolian National University of Science and Technology to Korea in June to hold a training workshop. The workshop will include a field trip to a recycling product production site and discussions on joint projects between industry, academia, and research institutes, and is expected to lay the foundation for sustainable international cooperation.
